Pyramid es un súpergrupo de metal progresivo originario de Estados Unidos. Este proyecto ha estado en activo durante este año promocionando “Rage”, un álbum que cuenta con la colaboración de Tim “Ripper” Owens (KK’s Priest), Andry Lagiou (The Harps), Harry Conklin (Jag Panzer) solo por mencionar algunos. La Magia Absalón entrevistó a Lance Sawyer, la mente detrás de esta agrupación quien nos platicó acerca del proceso creativo que se desarrolló.
LMA: Gracias por aceptar esta entrevista para La Magia Absalón. ¿Cómo surgió la idea de conformar Pyramid como un supergrupo?
Lance: Oh, sí, muchos años de composición, desarrollo personal e ideas. La colaboración con los grandes artistas y personas en RAGE aporta algo único y emocionante a las comunidades musicales.
LMA: “Rage” es el último álbum de estudio y es interesante la presencia de diferentes músicos, todos ellos con una amplia trayectoria dentro de la escena en sus respectivos géneros. ¿Cómo se desarrolla el proceso creativo con ellos para que la estructura lírica e instrumental vaya adquiriendo una personalidad propia?
Lance: Construyo la estructura de la canción en el bajo 🎧 y se reconstruye junto con cada artista las canciones uno por uno como un productor de música debe 🤔 Cada artista tiene su propio estilo así que después de tener una idea de lo que la canción necesitaba, llego a cada artista con mis ideas. Naturalmente ellos son y hacen lo que hacen. Crear su propia versión para cada parte de cada canción en RAGE sin ningún tipo de ataduras.
LMA: ¿Alguno de los invitados especiales dentro del proyecto ha sido partícipe en el proceso de composición del álbum? Si es así, ¿cómo se ha desarrollado este proceso?
Lance: Sí cada uno añade su firma y sus dones 🎁 a cada canción 😃 Ya contesté a esto en la segunda pregunta anterior 🤔
LMA: “Rage” es un álbum que líricamente tiene una carga política y social. ¿Existe alguna razón detrás de ello?
Lance: Es más que una canción o un álbum 💿 Es un álbum esclarecedor e inspirador que aporta experiencias reales y puntos de vista que cada uno vive día a día 🤔 Chocan todas esas marcas y es por eso que está conectando tanto con la vieja escuela de metal a los oyentes de música más nueva edad 🎶.
LMA: En algunas entrevistas se ha mencionado que por cuestiones de agenda de los músicos participantes dentro de Pyramid no ha sido posible realizar presentaciones en vivo. ¿Se ha considerado la posibilidad de conformar una banda propia que permita acercar la propuesta musical de Pyramid a más personas?
Lance: Esta música necesita que cada miembro del álbum suba al escenario. Por eso es tan única y hermosa. A medida que pase el tiempo y Pyramid siga adelante 🔝 lo hará 🤔 Seguro que lo verás en el escenario en un futuro próximo. Acaba de empezar a hacer su impacto 💪
LMA: Si se tuviera la posibilidad de invitar a un músico que ha sido parte crucial en la determinación de la propuesta musical de Pyramid, ¿quién sería y por qué?
Lance: Tim “Ripper” Owens 💯 % Ha trabajado y trabajará siempre en su oficio y seguirá mejorando y mejorando y mejorando. Sus legados continúan hasta el día de hoy. KK Priest está muy bien y ha sido un honor trabajar con él 😊 Es un verdadero caballero y profesional ❤️
LMA: “Rage” ha sido un álbum que ha tenido buena aceptación por parte de la prensa especializada, ¿cuáles son los planes que se tienen para el siguiente año?
Lance: Me gusta escribir durante los meses de invierno. Así que habrá más Pyramid, amigo mío. Ya tengo ideas y música empezada.

Pyramid is a progressive metal supergroup originally from the United States. This project has been active during this year promoting "Rage", an album that features the collaboration of Tim "Ripper" Owens (KK's Priest), Andry Lagiou (The Harps), Harry Conklin (Jag Panzer) just to mention a few. La Magia Absalon interviewed Lance Sawyer, the mind behind this group who told us about the creative process that took place.
LMA: Thank you so much for accept this interview to La Magia Absalon. How did the idea of forming Pyramid as a supergroup come about?
Lance: Oh yes lots of years writing self development and ideas. The collaboration with the great artists and people on RAGE brings something unique and exciting to the music communities.
LMA: "Rage" is the latest studio album and it is interesting the presence of different musicians, all of them with a wide trajectory within the scene in their respective genres. How does the creative process develop with them so that the lyrical and instrumental structure acquires its own personality?
Lance: I build the song 🎧 structure from bass and pieced together with each artist the songs one by one as a music producer should 🤔 Each artist has their own unique style so after having an idea of what the song needed already. I reached out to each artist with my ideas. Naturally they are and do what they do. Create their own version for each part of each song on RAGE without any strings attached.
LMA: Have any of the special guests within the project been involved in the process of composing the album? If so, how has this process developed?
Lance: Yes everyone adds their own signature and gifts 🎁 to each song 😃 I answered this in the second question above 🤔
LMA: "Rage" is a lyrically politically and socially charged album, is there a reason behind it?
Lance: It’s more then just a song or album 💿 It’s an enlightening and inspirational story album that brings real life experiences and views that each of live day to day 🤔 It hits all those marks and that’s why it’s connecting with both old school metal heads to newer age music 🎶 listeners.
LMA: In some interviews it has been mentioned that due to scheduling issues of the musicians involved on Pyramid it has not been possible to perform live. Have you considered the possibility of forming your own band to bring Pyramid's musical proposal to more people?
Lance: This music needs each member on the album to hit the stage. That’s why it’s so unique and beautiful. As time passes and Pyramid moves on 🔝 like it will 🤔 You will see this on stage for sure in the near future. It’s just started making it’s impact 💪
LMA: If you had the chance to invite a musician who has been a crucial part in determining Pyramid's musical approach, who would it be and why?
Lance: Tim "Ripper" Owens 💯 % He has and will always work on his craft and keep getting better and better and better. His legacies continue to this day. KK Priest is doing very well and it’s been a honor to work with him 😊 He’s a true gentleman and professional ❤️
LMA: "Rage" has been an album that has been well received by the specialized press, what are the plans for next year?
Lance: I like to write during the winter months. So more Pyramid will be on the rise my friend. I have ideas already and music started.
