The Voynich Code es una banda de deathcore que se ha mantenido en activo en esta cuarentena preparando su próximo material de estudio y presentándose en diferentes festivales en línea como MXChaos y Heresy Fest. La Magia Asbalón tuvo la oportunidad de entrevistar a la banda acerca de su último sencillo, la interacción que han tenido con sus fans en Latinoamerica y sobre el futuro de la banda.


La Magia Absalon: Muchas gracias por la oportunidad de entrevistarlos para La Magia Absalón. The Voynich Code tiene un estilo musical que combina deathcore con algunos elementos progresivos y groove. ¿Qué bandas influyeron en el sonido de la banda?


TVC: Tendemos a escuchar varias bandas nuevas, pero siempre tenemos nuestra base de metal proveniente de nuestra adolescencia. Bandas como Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder, Through The Eyes of the Dead, All Shall Perish y muchas más influyen en nuestro sonido. Intentamos agregar algunos elementos de esas bandas e integrarlos con nuestro sonido central. Es por eso, que tenemos una mezcla entre death metal y prog / groove metal.


LMA: Tu último sencillo "Cage of Innocence" fue lanzado el año pasado, ¿podrías contarnos un poco sobre esta canción?


TVC: “Cage of Innocence” marca una nueva era para nosotros como banda, especialmente en términos de composición. Es una canción bastante directa y enérgica. Nos tomamos un tiempo para escribirlo, especialmente la estructura de la canción. Cuando escribimos “Ignotum” no estábamos prestando atención a las estructuras de las canciones como lo hacemos actualmente. Es una canción que muestra nuestra madurez como banda.



LMA: La banda ha estado activa en esta cuarentena participando en diferentes festivales online, enfocándose principalmente en la audiencia latina como MxChaos y próximamente en Heresy Fest. ¿Cómo han sentido la respuesta del público latinoamericano hacia su música?


TVC: Amamos al público latinoamericano, es un apasionado de la música, especialmente la heavy. Ha sido una experiencia genial ya que no tuvimos la oportunidad de hacer una gira por América Latina. Este es el primer paso que damos y planeamos estar en América Latina, tocando en vivo, en el futuro.


LMA: ¿Cuáles consideran que son los desafíos que han enfrentado como banda en la transición de presentaciones en vivo a conciertos virtuales?


TVC: Para ser honesto, es aún más complejo y difícil que tocar en un programa en vivo. Tienes que grabar tu instrumental, grabar video, mezclar el sonido, editar el video y hacer que todo suene y luzca lo mejor posible.


LMA: ¿Qué reflexión pueden rescatar como banda de todo lo que pasó este año debido a la pandemia?


TVC: Nos mantuvimos muy positivos durante la pandemia, además de que todos los shows fueron cancelados, disfrutamos de esta "pausa" para hacer que nuestro nuevo disco sea lo mejor posible. La pandemia es una situación de mierda, pero tenemos que sacar la mejor parte y todas las cosas positivas que nos trajo esta situación.


LMA: ¿Cuáles son los planes de The Voynich Code para el próximo año?


TVC: Planeamos lanzar un nuevo disco que ya está mezclado y masterizado y tocar en vivo tanto como sea posible. Ya hemos anunciado algunos programas para 2021. Si las cosas van bien y la pandemia mejora, tendremos un buen año, ¡eso es seguro!


LMA: Me gustaría agradecerles por esta entrevista. ¿Le gustaría enviar un mensaje final a sus fans?


TVC: ¡Gracias por entrevistarnos y un gran agradecimiento a todos los fans que transmiten y apoyan nuestra música!

INTERVIEW WITH THE VOYNICH CODE



The Voynich Code is a deathcore band that has been active in this quarantine preparing their new album and performing at different online festivals such as MXChaos and Heresy Fest. La Magia Asbalón had the opportunity to interview the band about their latest single, the interaction they have had with their fans in Latin America and about the future of the band.


LMA: Thank you very much for the opportunity to interview you for La Magia Absalon. The Voynich Code have a musical style that combines Deathcore with some progressive and groove elements. What bands influenced the sound of the band?


TVC: We tend to listen to several newer bands but we always have our metal base coming from our teenage years. Bands like Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder, Through The Eyes of the Dead, All Shall perish and many more influence our sound. We try to add a few elements from that bands integrated with our core sound. That’s why we have a mix between death metal and prog/groove metal.


LMA: Your latest single "Cage of Innocence" was released last year, could you tell us a bit about this song?


TVC: “Cage of Innocence” marks a new era for us as a band, especially in terms of composition. It’s a song that’s pretty straight forward and energetic. We took some time writing it, especially the song structure. When we wrote “Ignotum” we were not paying attention to song structures like we are currently. It’s a song that shows our maturity as a band.



LMA: The band have been active in this quarantine participating in different online festivals, focusing mainly on the Latin audience such as MxChaos and soon in Heresy Fest. How have you felt the response of the Latin American public towards your music?


TVC: We love the Latin American public, they’re super passionate about music, especially the heavy one. It’s been a cool experience since we didn’t have the chance to tour in Latin America. This is the first step we make and we plan to be in Latin America, playing live, in the future.


LMA: What do you consider are the challenges you have faced as a band in transitioning from live performances to virtual concerts?


TVC: To be honest it is even more complex and harder than playing a live show. You have record your instrumental, record video, mix the sound, edit the video and make it everything sounding and looking as good as possible.


LMA: What reflection can you as a band rescue from everything that happened this year due to the pandemic?


TVC: We stayed super positive during the pandemic, besides all the shows getting cancelled we enjoyed this “pause” to make our new record the best as possible. The pandemic is a shitty situation but we have to take the best part and all the positive things that this situation brought us.


LMA: What are The Voynich Code's plans for next year?


TVC: We plan to release a new record which is already mixed and mastered and play live as much as possible. We have some shows already announced for 2021. If things go well and the pandemic gets better we’ll have a good year, that’s for sure!
