Illusions of Grandeur es una banda estadounidense de Theatrical Hard Rock/Fantasy Metal que continúa promocionando “The Siren” su último álbum el cual forma parte de la saga del mismo nombre. La banda ha estado presentando material nuevo como antesala a la publicación de su próximo álbum. La Magia Absalón tuvo la oportunidad de conversar con “The Siren” (voces) y “The Arcangel” (bajo) acerca de su propuesta musical y los planes a futuro para la banda.
LMA: Gracias por tomarse el tiempo de realizar esta entrevista para La Magia Absalón. Illusions of Grandeur ha estado activo durante los últimos años promocionando alrededor del mundo "The Siren Saga", ahora que la banda está por lanzar la tercera parte de esta saga "The Siren Rises", ¿cómo se ha sentido la banda con la respuesta del público?
IOG: Illusions of Grandeur ha recibido muchas críticas tanto de los álbumes "The Songs of the Siren" y "The Siren" como de los videos (7 videos en lanzamiento actualmente disponibles en iTunes y YouTube, VEVO) Los críticos ven los muchos lados de la banda, si no te gusta mucho nuestra música, hay teatro y actuación tanto en vivo como en el video. El último álbum de Illusions of Grandeur, “The Siren”, se grabó principalmente en el estudio privado Valley Road Recoding en Lancaster, PA. Se realizaron sobregrabaciones vocales y seguimiento adicional en varios estudios en los Estados Unidos, como Sunset Sound y Western Audio en Los Ángeles y los estudios Silk en Nueva Orleans, LA. IOG: La idea de Illusions of Grandeur es crear un mundo y contar la historia de “The Siren” y sus viajes. El amor de IOG por la historia y la mitología griega/nórdica consideró que este era el mejor medio para crear un mundo para “The Siren Saga”. IOG siente que al escuchar música o ver un show en vivo deberías poder sumergirte en ese momento y emprender tu propio viaje con la banda.
El segundo álbum de Illusions of Grandeur, “The Siren”, es la segunda parte de “The Siren Saga” y su historia se basa en los álbumes conceptuales “The Songs of the Siren prt1” y “The Siren prt2”. LMA: ¿Cómo se desarrolla el proceso creativo de Illusions of Grandeur en el estudio de grabación? ¿Qué temas son de interés para la banda, así como las bandas que ayudaron a consolidar su propuesta musical?
IOG: El principal compositor de IOG: Illusions of Grandeur es el bajista CM Carroll con letras y melodías proporcionadas por The Siren. Toda la banda participa en el proceso de arreglos y grabación y cada miembro, a medida que se producen las canciones, agrega elementos para crear la canción y el sonido general. IOG escribe continuamente, normalmente hace demostraciones de 30 a 35 canciones por álbum y luego encuentra las canciones que transmiten la historia y el sonido del disco.

INTERVIEW: ILLUSIONS OF GRANDEUR
Illusions of Grandeur is an American Theatrical Hard Rock/Fantasy Metal band that continues to promote “The Siren,” their latest album which is part of the saga of the same name. The band has been releasing new material in advance of the release of their next album. La Magia Absalón had the opportunity to talk with “The Siren” (vocals) and “The Arcangel” (bass) about their musical proposal and future plans for the band.
LMA: Thank you for taking the time to conduct this interview for La Magia Absalon. Illusions of Grandeur has been active during the last years promoting around the world "The Siren Saga", now that the band is about to release the third part of this saga "The Siren Rises", how has the band felt about the public response?
IOG: Illusions of Grandeur has received many reviews of both the albums "The Songs of the Siren" and "The Siren" and the videos (7 videos in release currently available on iTunes and YouTube, VEVO) Reviewers see the many sides of the band, if you are not really into our music there are the theatrics and acting done both live and in the video. Illusions of Grandeur have been told many times that there is a little something for everyone in what IOG does.
Illusions of Grandeur’s latest album “The Siren” was recorded mainly in their private studio, Valley Road Recoding in Lancaster, PA. Vocal overdubs and additional tracking were done at multiple studios across the United States such as Sunset Sound and Western Audio in Los Angles and Silk studios in New Orleans, LA. Additionally the tracks Falling, and Demons were Co-produced by David Ivory at Ivory Sound Studios. The final mixing and mastering were done at Valley Road Recording.
It was an amazing and varied experience as a majority of the writing took place before the 2020 pandemic and the record was made during the lock down. This time allowed the band to experiment with different writing styles and sounds.
LMA: The band has two previous releases: "The Songs of the Siren" and "The Siren", for those who are just getting into your music, could you tell us a little bit about these albums and their relationship with "The Siren Saga".
IOG: The idea of Illusions of Grandeur is to create a world and tell the story of “The Siren” and her journeys. IOG’s love of both history and Greek/Norse Mythology felt that this was the best medium way to create a world for “The Siren Saga.” IOG feels that when listening to music or seeing a live show you should be able to immerse yourself in that moment and take a journey of your own with the band.
Illusions of Grandeur’s 2nd album “The Siren” is the 2nd part of “The Siren Saga” draws its story line from the concept albums “The Songs of the Siren prt1” and “The Siren prt2”. Acting out the songs and story on stage amidst a light and video show. IOG’s fans known as The Siren Nation are amazing, supporting both in America and Europe.
LMA: How does the creative process of Illusions of Grandeur develop in the recording studio? What themes are of interest to the band, as well as the bands that helped consolidate your musical proposal?
IOG: Illusions of Grandeur’s main music writer is Bassist CM Carroll with lyrics and melodies provided by The Siren. The entire band participates in the arranging and recording process and each member, as songs are produced, add elements into it to create the overall song and sound. IOG is continuously writing, normally demoing 30-35 songs per album then finding the songs that carry the story and sound of the record.
Illusions of Grandeur’s influences come from many genres of course starting with metal; like Korn, In This Moment Metallica, Avatar and Evanescence. Each member draws off their individual influences as well which are varied from The Siren’s love of Classic rock like Janis Joplin and heart to CM’s love of The Smiths, Supertramp Soundgarden into Ted’s love of death metal and more. IOG feels this just adds to the sound and allows the band to explore a lot of themes in their music. We still listen to these artists and many, many more.
LMA: Midnight is the first single from your upcoming album "The Siren Rises". In some interviews it was mentioned that the band has been experimenting with a darker sound, is there any intention behind it?
IOG: Yes, we recently released a new single “Midnight” it is the next step for Illusions of Grandeur, the 1st single from the forthcoming album “The Siren Rises” which the band hopes to have in release by early 2024. “Midnight” again takes the band musically into unfamiliar territory. The darker tones and elements really reflect the overall mood of the band upcoming 3rd part of The Siren Saga entitles “The Siren Rises part1: Raven Witch”. The new album will be the 1st part of the 2nd part end chapter of this saga and the band extends to really open up on the added genres and musical styles and sounds to continue to explore new territory.

LMA: The band has been performing in some cities in the US, have you had the opportunity to show your fans some previews of what will be your new album?
IOG: We have added the new single “Midnight” to the tour and during our final leg of 2023 touring will be playing a few other songs from the upcoming album.
