Sebia es una banda de origen griego que está promocionando su álbum debut “Acceptance of Reality” que nos presenta una fusión entre el hard rock con algunos elementos progresivos y melódicos en el que abordan temas socio-filosóficos. LMA: Gracias por la entrevista para La Magia Absalón. Sebia se encuentra presentando su álbum debut “Acceptance of Reality”, en algunas entrevistas se menciona que la banda se formó durante el periodo de pandemia, ¿podrías contarnos un poco sobre los orígenes de la banda y sus principales influencias musicales?
Sebia: ¡Gracias por invitarnos a La Magia Absalón! Sí, es cierto, Sebia se fundó originalmente alrededor de abril de 2020 durante la pandemia de covid-19. La banda (antes de pasar a llamarse Sebia), ya tenía algunos temas y el sueño de hacer un álbum, cuando todo volviera a la normalidad. Hoy en día, la banda está formada por cinco miembros: Nikos Gavalas (bajo, voz), Konstantinos Kyritsis (guitarrista principal), Pavlos Kounalakis (batería) y Marios Theodorou (guitarrista rítmico).
LMA: Un hecho que encuentro interesante sobre la banda está relacionado con la historia detrás de su nombre, en la que Sebia es una humanoide femenina que vivía en un mundo de fantasía llamado Aen. ¿De dónde viene este personaje que sirvió de inspiración para darle nombre a la banda?
Sebia: Todos conocemos Dungeon and Dragons, ¿verdad? La idea de Sebia surgió de una campaña de este tipo en los conocidos juegos D&D. Este personaje sirve como una representación de la banda y refleja su filosofía subyacente. Representa esa extraña voz interior que de vez en cuando resuena en nuestra cabeza y que nos negamos a escuchar. Es nuestro propio yo. La ayuda que necesitamos en nuestras vidas, que nos da fuerzas para seguir adelante. Sebia, como un cuervo, es el símbolo principal de nuestra banda y nos hace sentir libres de componer y tocar nuestra música sin pensar en fronteras musicales.
LMA: Su álbum debut "Acceptance of Reality" presenta una propuesta musical en la que combinas elementos del metal en su estilo más clásico con algunos pasajes melódicos y progresivos, ¿cómo se desarrolló el proceso de composición y grabación para llegar a este resultado?
Sebia: Dentro de Sebia operamos con una cosa en mente: "Compartimos ideas entre nosotros".
En otras palabras, no hay una sola persona que escribe y compone canciones en la banda. En esto participamos todos y cada uno escucha un género diferente.
Ésta es la belleza de la creación y la inspiración. Barajando ideas y combinando estilos que dan como resultado un resultado único. Te sorprendería lo bien que cinco personas diferentes con ideas diferentes pueden darle vida a una canción sólida.
LMA: En términos líricos, “Acceptance of Reality” tiene como tema principal el cuestionamiento de las inquietudes humanas, ¿podrías contarnos un poco sobre la parte conceptual que hay detrás de tu álbum debut?
Sebia: Por supuesto. Creemos que cada álbum de música tiene una historia que contar, nosotros también. Una historia y un viaje por la mente y la conciencia. Un viaje duro y accidentado a través de nuestros hechos y arrepentimientos, enfrentándonos a nosotros mismos. Hasta que veamos la luz a través de la aceptación de la realidad. La única manera de triunfar en esta vida, desde nuestro punto de vista, es aceptar lo que sucede a tu alrededor y seguir adelante, superando obstáculos y si caes, encontrar la fuerza para volver a levantarte. Esta no es una tarea fácil. Así es como vemos las cosas.
LMA: ¿Hay alguna canción dentro de "Acceptance of Reality" que haya sido más significativa derivada del proceso de escritura y grabación del álbum?
Sebia: Sí, hay una canción en 'Acceptance of Reality' que tiene un significado particular para nosotros, tanto en términos del proceso de escritura como de grabación. Esa canción es "Witch Hunt"
Cuando estábamos escribiendo esta canción, nos encontramos en un espacio creativo único. La letra y la melodía parecían fluir sin esfuerzo y sabíamos que teníamos algo especial entre manos. Capturó un momento de autodescubrimiento que resonó profundamente en nosotros.
LMA: ¿Cómo se ha sentido la banda ante la respuesta de la prensa especializada respecto a su álbum debut?
Sebia: Para ser honesto, estamos absolutamente emocionados con la respuesta de la prensa especializada a nuestro álbum debut. Ha sido un viaje increíble ver nuestra música revisada y discutida por expertos de la industria. Los comentarios positivos y el reconocimiento del arduo trabajo y la dedicación que pusimos en la creación del álbum han sido realmente humillantes.
LMA: ¿Cuáles son los planes futuros para Sebia?
Sebia: A nuestra banda le apasiona crear música única y significativa. Aspiramos a tener un impacto duradero en la escena musical y conectarnos con el público en un nivel emocional profundo.
A largo plazo, nos imaginamos participando en importantes festivales, colaborando con músicos e inspirando a una nueva generación de artistas.

LMA: Thanks for the interview for La Magia Absalon. Sebia is presenting their debut album "Acceptance of Reality", in some interviews it is mentioned that the band was formed during the pandemic period, could you tell us a little bit about the origins of the band and their main musical influences?
Sebia: Thank you for having us La Magia Absalon! Yes, it’s true, Sebia was originally founded around April of 2020 during the covid-19 pandemic. The band (before being renamed to Sebia), already had some tracks and a dream of making an album, when everything would be back to normal again. Today the band consists of five members: Nikos Gavalas (Bass, Vocals), Konstantinos Kyritsis (Lead Guitarist), Pavlos Kounalakis (Drums) and Marios Theodorou (Rhythm Guitarist).
LMA: A fact that I find interesting about the band is related to the story behind its name, in which Sebia is a female humanoid that lived in a fantasy world called Aen. Where does this character that served as inspiration to name the band come from?
Sebia: We all know Dungeon and Dragons, right? Sebia as an idea came from such a campaign in the well-known D&D games. This character serves as a representation of the band reflecting its underlying philosophy. It represents this strange inner voice echoing in our head from time to time, which we refuse to listen to. It is our own self. The aid we need in our lives, that gives us strength to go on. Sebia, as a crow, is the main symbol of our band and makes us feel free to compose and play our music without thinking of musical borders.
LMA: Your debut album "Acceptance of Reality" presents a musical proposal in which you combine elements of metal in its most classic style with some melodic and progressive passages, how was the composition and recording process developed to reach this result?
Sebia: Within Sebia we operate with one thing in mind: “We share ideas with each other.”
In other words, there is not only one person that writes and composes songs in the band. We all take part in this, and each one of us, listens to a different genre.
This is the beauty of creation and inspiration. Shuffling ideas and combining styles which result in a unique outcome. You would be surprised how well 5 different people with different ideas can bring one solid song to life.
LMA: In lyrical terms, "Acceptance of Reality" has as its main theme the questioning of human concerns, could you tell us a little about the conceptual part that is behind your debut album?
Sebia: Of course. We believe that every music album has a story to tell, so do we. A story and a journey through the mind and conscience. A hard and rough trip through our deeds and regrets, facing ourselves. Till we see the light through the acceptance of reality. The only way to succeed in this life, from our point of view, is to accept what’s going on around you and keep going, surpassing obstacles and if you fall, find the strength to get up again. This is not an easy task. It is how we see things.
LMA: Is there any song within "Acceptance of Reality" that has been more significant derived from the process of writing and recording the album?
Sebia: Yes, there's one song in 'Acceptance of Reality' that holds particular significance to us, both in terms of the writing and recording process. That song is “Witch Hunt”
When we were writing this track, we found ourselves in a unique creative space. The lyrics and melody seemed to flow effortlessly, and we knew we had something special on our hands. It captured a moment self-discovery that resonated deeply with us.
LMA: How has the band felt about the response from the specialized press regarding their debut album?
Sebia: To be honest, we've been absolutely thrilled with the response from the specialized press to our debut album. It's been an incredible journey to see our music reviewed and discussed by experts in the industry. The positive feedback and the recognition of the hard work and dedication we put into creating the album have been truly humbling.
LMA: What are the future plans for Sebia?
Sebia: Our band is really passionate about creating unique and meaningful music. We aspire to make a lasting impact on the music scene and connect with audiences on a deep emotional level.
In the long term, we envision ourselves taking part in major festivals, collaborating with musicians, and inspiring a new generation of artists.
