Aftermath es una banda originaria de Chicago, Ilinois que publicaron este año su tercer álbum titulado “No Time to Waste”. Este álbum forma parte de una trilogía a la que le anteceden sus anteriores trabajos “Eyes of Tomorrow” y “There Is Something Wrong”. La banda de Technical Progressive Thrash Metal ofreció una entrevista para La Magia Absalón en la que nos hablan acerca de esta trilogía y el proceso creativo de su último álbum aquí.
No Time To Waste es la canción homónima de este álbum en la que realizan una crítica acerca de la situación global a nivel político, social y ambiental. La interpretación vocal de Kyriakos 'Charlie' Tsiolis denota este enojo y molestia que en definitiva transmite esta sensación al oyente. Me gusta la parte del coro pues rompe un poco con la estructura del thrash metal creando un sonido más pegadizo. La ejecución de la batería al término de la canción es espectacular.
Original Instructions comienza con unas transiciones sonoras interesantes desarrolladas por la guitarra que van aumentando su sonido a medida que avanza y que se fusionan con el característico sonido del thrash metal. Me agrada como la banda juega con otros elementos como las voces habladas o sonidos más melódicos como el solo de guitarra de Steve Sacco que funciona bastante con la intencionalidad de la banda de cuestionar y criticar esta toma de decisiones.
Transform & Disrupt es una canción que realiza una crítica al sistema educativo con relación a la enseñanza que se imparte al interior de las escuelas vinculada con el adoctrinamiento. George Nektarios Lagis desarrolla un gran trabajo en la ejecución del bajo siendo el elemento de mayor predominancia. La parte vocal alcanza su punto más álgido en el coro en la que descarga su furia y la intervención de las voces habladas se genera con toda intención de refleja la voz del maestro coartando la libertad de los niños.
Up is Down es una canción que en términos instrumentales juega más con notas progresivas y las armonías vocales en la parte del coro. La intervención vocal de Kyriakos 'Charlie' Tsiolis mantiene este elemento thrash transitando entre voces guturales y habladas tratando de recrear esta sensación de confusión que describe la letra de la canción.
SLAVeABLE retoma esta instrumentación agresiva presentada al inicio del álbum en la que nos retratan la manipulación mediática. La banda es contundente y directa al mencionar la frase “we’re not your animals” en distintas partes de la canción. En términos sonoros, muestra una faceta más rítmica por parte del quinteto estadounidense con un coro bastante pegadizo pero que no se aleja de su identidad musical.
We Can Do This Together plantea una luz de esperanza vinculada con el despertar de la razón para crear una sociedad justa y libre. El sonido de la banda cuenta con la presencia de elementos propios del thrash metal fusionado con algunos elementos melódicos y progresivos que se agradecen al oído. La frase que da título a la canción es un recordatorio que todos podemos generar un cambio.
Echo Chamber es mi canción favorita del álbum en la que Ray Schmidt realiza un trabajo espectacular en la ejecución de la batería en conjunto con el bajo. En esta canción en particular, podemos apreciar un sonido más puro del thrash metal tanto en términos instrumentales como vocales.
Strawman In The House Of Cards da cuenta del potencial creativo que tienen los originarios de Chicago al fusionar el blues con la crítica social que distingue a bandas de su género. Una decisión quizás arriesgada, pero que encaja bien con la propuesta creativa de la banda.
We Don’t Want a Riot pareciera continuar con una propuesta sonora a la de su canción anterior, pero retoma las notas propias del thrash metal en la que retoman como tema principal la censura y la libertad de expresión Una canción que destaca por la fuerza interpretativa de su vocalista junto con las armonías vocales, el coro es pegadizo y contundente con su mensaje.
Give Peace a Chance es una versión que la banda creó a su propio estilo de la original que es interpretada por John Lennon, una canción que líricamente, encaja con la propuesta musical de la banda abordada a lo largo del álbum y que musicalmente, tiene la esencia del thrash metal. Un cover que me ha gustado bastante y que permite apreciar a Kyriakos 'Charlie' Tsiolis explotar sus cualidades vocales.
Aftermath no es la típica banda de thrash metal pero su propuesta musical te encantará por la congruencia que existe entre la parte lírica y musical en la que retoman la esencia de la vieja escuela y a su vez, juegan con diferentes elementos como las notas progresivas, las armonías vocales y la fusión con otros géneros musicales haciendo que cada una de las canciones adquiera una identidad propia. No Time To Waste es un álbum que en definitiva merece la pena escuchar y analizar. Dinámico, divertido y crítico son las palabras que lo definen.

Aftermath is a band from Chicago, Illinois who released their third album titled “No Time to Waste”. This album is part of a trilogy preceded by their previous works “Eyes of Tomorrow” and “There Is Something Wrong”. The Technical Progressive Thrash Metal band offered an interview for La Magia Absalón in which they tell us about this trilogy and the creative process of their latest album here.
No Time To Waste is the homonymous song on this album in which they criticize the global situation at a political, social and environmental level. Kyriakos 'Charlie' Tsiolis' vocal performance conveys this anger and annoyance which ultimately conveys this feeling to the listener. I like the chorus part because it breaks a bit with the structure of thrash metal creating a catchier sound. The performance of the drums at the end of the song is spectacular.
Original Instructions begins with some interesting sonic transitions developed by the guitar that increase its sound as it progresses and merge with the characteristic sound of thrash metal. I like how the band plays with other elements such as spoken voices or more melodic sounds like Steve Sacco's guitar solo that works quite well with the band's intention to question and criticize this decision making.
Transform & Disrupt is a song that criticizes the educational system in relation to the teaching that is taught within schools linked to indoctrination. George Nektarios Lagis develops a great job in the execution of the bass, being the element with the greatest predominance. The vocal part reaches its highest point in the chorus in which it unleashes its fury, and the intervention of the spoken voices is generated with all the intention of reflecting the voice of the teacher, restricting the freedom of the children.
Up is Down is a song that in instrumental terms plays more with progressive notes and vocal harmonies in the chorus part. The vocal intervention of Kyriakos 'Charlie' Tsiolis maintains this thrash element, transitioning between guttural and spoken voices trying to recreate this feeling of confusion that the lyrics of the song describe.
SLAVeABLE takes up this aggressive instrumentation presented at the beginning of the album in which they portray media manipulation. The band is forceful and direct when mentioning the phrase "we're not your animals" in different parts of the song. In terms of sound, it shows a more rhythmic facet on the part of the American quintet with a rather catchy chorus that does not stray from its musical identity.
We Can Do This Together raises a light of hope linked to the awakening of reason to create a just and free society. The band's sound has the presence of elements typical of thrash metal fused with some melodic and progressive elements that are appreciated by the ear. The song's title phrase is a reminder that we can all make a change.
Echo Chamber is my favorite song on the album where Ray Schmidt does an amazing job playing the drums along with the bass. In this song, we can appreciate a purer thrash metal sound both in instrumental and vocal terms.
Strawman In The House Of Cards realizes the creative potential that Chicago natives have by fusing blues with the social criticism that distinguishes bands of their genre. A perhaps risky decision, but one that fits well with the creative proposal of the band.
We Don't Want a Riot seems to continue with a sound proposal to that of their previous song, but it takes up the typical notes of thrash metal in which they take up censorship and freedom of expression as the main theme. A song that stands out for its interpretative force of its vocalist together with the vocal harmonies, the chorus is catchy and forceful with its message.
Give Peace a Chance is a version that the band created in their own style of the original that is performed by John Lennon, a song that lyrically fits with the musical proposal of the band addressed throughout the album and that musically, has the essence of thrash metal. A cover that I quite liked and that allows us to appreciate Kyriakos 'Charlie' Tsiolis exploiting his vocal qualities.
Aftermath is not the typical thrash metal band, but you will love their musical proposal due to the congruence that exists between the lyrical and musical part in which they take up the essence of the old school and, in turn, play with different elements such as progressive notes, vocal harmonies and the fusion with other musical genres, making each of the songs acquire its own identity. No Time To Waste is an album that is definitely worth listening to and analyzing. Dynamic, fun and critical are the words that define it
