Mono Inc. es uno de los referentes del metal gótico a nivel mundial. Los alemanes comienzan este año con el lanzamiento de su álbum Ravenblack, su duodécimo trabajo musical. Motivados por el éxito obtenido posterior a la publicación de The Book of Fire que los catapultó en lo más alto de las listas en su país natal, este cuarteto ha recargado energías y nos presenta una propuesta sonora que fusiona el característico estilo de la banda con algunos elementos alternativos y melódicos.
Las notas del piano nos introducen a At the End of the Rainbow, una canción que es sinónimo de fortaleza al retratar este poder interior para superar los obstáculos que se presentan y saber que siempre existe una luz al final del túnel. La armonía vocal que se genera entre Martin Engler y Katha Mia es agradable al oído además de que plantean una especie de presentación de algunos elementos que identificaremos a lo largo del álbum como es el empleo de los sintetizadores y cierta influencia del folk en la parte instrumental de las canciones.
Empire es una canción en la que se aprecia el característico sonido de la banda. Es una balada rock que funciona bastante bien como carta de presentación de este álbum por su estribillo pegadizo y al mostrar esta atmósfera gótica a través del sonido del órgano. Princess of the Night continua con esta misma línea rítmica, pero a diferencia de la canción anterior, podemos observar un sonido más agresivo que se distingue por los riffs de la guitarra y la ejecución de la batería invitando al oyente a mover los pies al ritmo de la música.
Angels Never Die es quizás una de las canciones más oscuras de este álbum en la que Carl Fornia destaca por su ejecución en la guitarra. Acompañada por las melódicas notas del piano, se aprecia la interpretación vocal de Martin Engler orientada hacia el empleo de los graves que contrasta con la participación de la banda SANZ que acentúa esta ambientación gótica en la que líricamente se hace referencia a la ausencia.
Heartbeat of the Dead muestra una faceta más alternativa en el sonido de la banda en la que se otorga mayor libertad para experimentar con otros sonidos, como es el caso del empleo de los sintetizadores y en la que también se percibe una mayor presencia del bajo en la que Val Perun se incorpora en la banda. En definitiva, una de las canciones que engloban la propuesta musical de este álbum.
Ravenblack pareciera ser la canción perfecta para estar cantando a todo pulmón en un concierto debido al ritmo tan pegajoso con el que cuenta, sin embargo, me resulta interesante el mensaje que se plantea detrás de la misma que gira en torno al libre desarrollo de la personalidad, cuestionando los estereotipos establecidos por la sociedad. Destaco la participación de Val Perun en el bajo y de Katha Mia en las armonías vocales.
Liebe Mich y Wiedersehen Woanders son canciones que se incluyen en este álbum que son interpretadas en su totalidad en alemán. Lo curioso es que encajan bien con la propuesta musical de la banda. En el caso de la primera, se apuesta por un sonido que fusiona lo gótico con lo moderno en la que se destaca el empleo de los sintetizadores y la batería como elementos principales. Por su parte, Wiedersehen Woanders muestra ese aire de nostalgia y tristeza a través del sonido del violín y del piano en la que se aborda como tema principal el duelo.
La música también reconforta y Never Alone es un ejemplo de ello. Esta canción destaca por la fusión de elementos sinfónicos además de la brillante interpretación de Martin Engler junto a Katha Mia en los coros. El mensaje que transmite esta canción en particular es un abrazo al alma al brindar este apoyo emocional en los momentos más complicados.
After Dark cuenta con la participación de Storm Seeker. Decisión inteligente de Mono Inc. al incluir en el proceso creativo del álbum a las bandas con quienes compartirán gira en los próximos meses. Es de aplaudirse la apertura del cuarteto alemán al jugar con otros géneros como es el caso del folk metal. Una canción pegajosa que funciona a la perfección como sencillo promocional.
Day of Reckoning es la canción con la que cerramos esta reseña y que se aleja del característico sonido de la banda apostando por una propuesta musical más cercana a lo melódico. Llama la atención la complicidad entre Martin Engler y Katha Mia en la interpretación vocal y en la que se da la impresión de brindarle mayor protagonismo a la voz femenina en el estribillo.
Mono Inc. ofrece en Ravenblack una dosis de metal gótico con el sello de la casa y en la que se observa un esfuerzo por reinventarse a sí mismos al jugar con diferentes elementos sonoros que fortalezcan su propuesta musical. Este último trabajo de la banda alemana es entretenido y dinámico cumpliendo con el propósito de enganchar al oyente de principio a fin.

The piano notes introduce us to At the End of the Rainbow, a song that is synonymous with strength by portraying this inner power to overcome the obstacles that arise and know that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. The vocal harmony that is generated between Martin Engler and Katha Mia is pleasant to the ear, in addition to the fact that they present a kind of presentation of some elements that we will identify throughout the album, such as the use of synthesizers and a certain influence of folk in the instrumental part. of the songs.
Empire is a song in which the characteristic sound of the band can be appreciated. It is a rock ballad that works quite well as a cover letter for this album due to its catchy chorus and by showing this gothic atmosphere through the sound of the organ. Princess of the Night continues with this same rhythmic line, but unlike the previous song, we can observe a more aggressive sound that is distinguished by the guitar riffs and the execution of the drums, inviting the listener to move their feet to the rhythm of music.
Angels Never Die is perhaps one of the darkest songs on this album in which Carl Fornia stands out for his guitar playing. Accompanied by the melodic notes of the piano, the vocal interpretation of Martin Engler oriented towards the use of bass can be appreciated, which contrasts with the participation of the band SANZ, which accentuates this gothic setting in which lyrical reference is made to absence.
Heartbeat of the Dead shows a more alternative facet in the band's sound in which greater freedom is given to experiment with other sounds, such as the use of synthesizers and in which a greater presence of bass is also perceived in which Val Perun joins the band. In short, one of the songs that encompass the musical proposal of this album.
Ravenblack seems to be the perfect song to be singing at the top of your lungs in a concert due to the catchy rhythm it has, however, I find the message behind it interesting, which revolves around the free development of personality, questioning the stereotypes established by society. I highlight the participation of Val Perun on bass and Katha Mia on vocal harmonies.
Liebe Mich and Wiedersehen Woanders are songs included on this album that are performed entirely in German. The funny thing is that they fit well with the band's musical proposal. In the case of the first, it opts for a sound that fuses the gothic with the modern in which the use of synthesizers and drums as main elements stands out. On the other part, Wiedersehen Woanders shows that air of nostalgia and sadness through the sound of the violin and the piano in which mourning is addressed as the main theme.
Music also comforts and Never Alone is an example of this. This song stands out for the fusion of symphonic elements in addition to the brilliant interpretation of Martin Engler together with Katha Mia in the choirs. The message that this song conveys is a hug to the soul by providing this emotional support in the most difficult moments.
After Dark features the participation of Storm Seeker. Intelligent decision by Mono Inc. to include in the creative process of the album the bands with whom they will share tour in the coming months, and the opening of the German quartet to play with other genres such as folk metal is to be applauded. A catchy song that works perfectly as a promotional single.
