Axel de Montalembert es la mente detrás de Phoebus The Knight, banda francesa de Symphonic Power Metal que en fechas recientes publicaron su álbum debut Ferrum Fero Ferro Feror. Lo interesante de su propuesta musical es el empleo de voces en tonos bajos como elemento principal, así como el empleo de voces guturales. Ante Lux es una canción instrumental que nos traslada a las tierras en la que se desarrollan las aventuras de Phoebus y los caballeros de la Heliópolis. Los arreglos orquestales buscan recrear el camino que sigue Phoebus a través del bosque más oscuro para rescatar a Selene, su amada. Esta historia se narra en The Beast Within, en la que se muestra un lado más heavy por parte del quinteto francés.
The Iron Queen es una balada que describe el encuentro entre Phoebus y Selene. Las delicadas notas del piano recrean este momento romántico en el que ambos personajes rememoran las vivencias compartidas y se prometen destruir a la bestia. La bajista Noémie Allet realiza los coros junto a Axel de Montalembert creando una armonía que se agradece al oído, el solo de guitarra es simplemente espectacular.
The Scarlet Dance evoca a través de los riffs de la guitarra y el golpeteo incesante de la batería al metal sinfónico de la vieja escuela. Los arreglos orquestales por parte de Adrien Djouadou destacan por completo y presentan diferentes matices a medida que avanza la canción. Es quizás, una de mis canciones favoritas del álbum y en la que se narra el plan elaborado por Phoebus y Selene para desterrar a la bestia en el tártaro.
Semen Pessmorum nos introduce a la segunda parte de la historia y nos muestra una faceta más teatral de la banda. Las primeras notas nos trasladan a la época de medievo y a medida que avanza la canción se percibe un cambio de sonido por mas dramático que se justifica en Darkness Will Prevail en la que Axel de Montalembert nos demuestra que también es posible emplear diferentes matices vocales en tonalidades bajas, además de observar un ligero coqueteo con el death metal al emplear guturales realmente desgarradores para dar cuenta de la reconstrucción del cuerpo de la bestia en el infierno.
Los arreglos orquestales nos introducen a Children of the Night, una canción en la que Guillaume Remih destaca en la ejecución de la batería junto a Adrien Djouadou y Adrien Guingal en las guitarras. La parte del estribillo en la que se fusionan las voces guturales con el coro es magistral en la que se describe como la bestia después de reconstruir su cuerpo prepara a sus tropas vampíricas para invadir Paris.
The Queen of the Black Sun regresa al característico sonido del metal sinfónico en la que se percibe cierta influencia parisina a través de las notas del piano y en la que podemos apreciar una voz más melódica por parte del vocalista. Este capítulo narra el cortejo entre la Bestia y Lilith en la que ambos terminan uniendo sus fuerzas para desatar la furia sobre el mundo humano. Nuevamente podemos apreciar la voz Noémie Allet en los coros.
Para Bellum destaca por las notas del arpa que nos introducen a la última parte de la historia desarrollada por Phoebus The Knight en la que metafóricamente, se describe el paso de las tropas vampíricas de Lilith y la Bestia del infierno al mundo humano gracias a Claude Frollo. Interesante la inclusión de elementos musicales característicos de la cultura francesa.
Massacre de Septembre es una balada que destaca por las notas del piano y los acordes del violín en la que Phoebus se lamenta por la pérdida de la Princesa de Lamballe y de todos los injustamente asesinados por los jacobinos. Una canción en la que se transmite esta sensación de tristeza y dolor también enaltece este espíritu heroico que continua en la canción homónima de este álbum debut de Phoebus The Knight, Ferrum Fero Ferro Feror, que en sus primeros acordes es inevitable la asociación de Nightwish (a quien la banda menciona como una de sus principales influencias musicales). En esa canción, se describe como Phoebus y los caballeros de la Heliópolis (Oswald Croll, Arkeuid, Hadrian y Robin de Locksley) se motivan y conducen al ejército hacia la gran batalla.
The Sword of Justice describe la batalla entre los ejércitos del bien y el mal en las puertas de Notre-Dame. Un aspecto que me agradó bastante de Phoebus The Knight es como a través de la música la banda te iba haciendo partícipe de la historia enganchando al oyente canción tras canción. Tristemente, culmina con la derrota de Phoebus y su ejército gracias a un poderoso artefacto en manos de Lilith.
Phoebus The Knight es una de esas bandas a las que me gustaría seguir su trayectoria musical en años posteriores. Ferrum Fero Ferro Feror es un álbum que se apropia de la esencia del metal sinfónico de la vieja escuela para crear un estilo propio que se refuerza con el arte del álbum. Este quinteto francés nos ha presentado un álbum sensorial, imaginativo y dinámico que te desconecta de la realidad y te hace participe de sus aventuras junto con los caballeros de la Heliópolis.

Axel de Montalembert is the mind behind Phoebus The Knight, a French Symphonic Power Metal band that recently released their debut album Ferrum Fero Ferro Feror. The interesting thing about their musical proposal is the use of voices in low tones as the main element, as well as the use of guttural voices. Ante Lux is an instrumental song that takes us to the lands where the adventures of Phoebus and the knights of Heliopolis take place. The orchestral arrangements seek to recreate the path that Phoebus follows through the darkest forest to rescue Selene, his lover. This story is told in The Beast Within, in which a heavier side is shown by the French quintet.
The Iron Queen is a ballad that describes the meeting between Phoebus and Selene. The delicate piano notes recreate this romantic moment in which both characters recall their shared experiences and vow to destroy the beast. The bassist Noémie Allet performs the choirs together with Axel de Montalembert creating a harmony that is pleasant to the ear, the guitar solo is simply spectacular.
The Scarlet Dance evokes old-school symphonic metal through guitar riffs and the incessant pounding of drums. The orchestral arrangements by Adrien Djouadou stand out completely and present different nuances as the song progresses. It is perhaps one of my favorite songs on the album and in which the plan developed by Phoebus and Selene to banish the beast in Tartar is narrated.
Semen Pessmorum introduces us to the second part of the story and shows us a more theatrical facet of the band. The first notes take us to medieval times and as the song progresses a change in sound is perceived, however dramatic it is justified in Darkness Will Prevail, in which Axel de Montalembert shows us that it is also possible to use different vocal nuances in tonalities. low, in addition to observing a slight flirtation with death metal by using truly heartbreaking gutturals to account for the reconstruction of the body of the beast in hell.
The orchestral arrangements introduce us to Children of the Night, a song in which Guillaume Remih stands out on drums alongside Adrien Djouadou and Adrien Guingal on guitars. The part of the chorus in which the guttural voices merge with the chorus is masterful in describing how the beast, after rebuilding her body, prepares her vampiric troops to invade Paris.
The Queen of the Black Sun returns to the characteristic sound of symphonic metal in which a certain Parisian influence is perceived through the piano notes and in which we can appreciate a more melodic voice on the part of the vocalist. This chapter narrates the courtship between the Beast and Lilith in which both end up joining forces to unleash fury on the human world. Once again, we can appreciate the voice of Noémie Allet in the choirs.
Para Bellum, it stands out for the harp notes that introduce us to the last part of the story developed by Phoebus The Knight in which, metaphorically, the passage of the vampiric troops of Lilith and the Beast from hell to the human world are described thanks to Claude Frollo. Interesting inclusion of characteristic musical elements of French culture.
Massacre de Septembre is a ballad that stands out for the piano notes and violin chords in which Phoebus laments the loss of the Princess of Lamballe and all those unjustly murdered by the Jacobins. A song in which this feeling of sadness and pain is conveyed also extols this heroic spirit that continues in the homonymous song from this debut album by Phoebus The Knight, Ferrum Fero Ferro Feror, in which the association of Nightwish is inevitable in its first chords whom the band mentions as one of their main musical influences). In that song, it is described how Phoebus and the Knights of Heliopolis (Oswald Croll, Arkeuid, Hadrian and Robin of Locksley) get motivated and lead the army into the great battle.
The Sword of Justice depicts the battle between the armies of good and evil at the gates of Notre-Dame. One aspect that I quite liked about Phoebus The Knight is how through the music the band was making you part of the story, hooking the listener song after song. Sadly, it culminates in the defeat of Phoebus and his army thanks to a powerful artifact in the hands of Lilith.
Phoebus The Knight is one of those bands that I would like to follow their musical trajectory in later years. Ferrum Fero Ferro Feror is an album that appropriates the essence of old school symphonic metal to create its own style that is reinforced by the album art. This French quintet has presented us with a sensory, imaginative and dynamic album that disconnects you from reality and makes you participate in their adventures together with the knights of Heliopolis.
