#Crypta es la banda que surgió después de la separación de #FernandaLira y #LuanaDametto de la banda de #ThrashMetal brasileño #Nervosa y que se aleja por completo del estilo musical que las catapultó a la fama en los últimos años apostando por el #DeathMetal. Esta banda terminó de conformarse con #SoniaAnubis (ex-Burning Witches y Cobra Spell) y #TaináBergamaschi (ex-Hagbard) pasando de un proyecto alterno a ser una banda de tiempo completo.
La Magia Absalón tuvo la oportunidad de platicar con su baterista Luana Dametto acerca de la banda, de su álbum debut que está proceso de composición y de los retos que vienen para este cuarteto brasileño/holandés en un futuro.
LMA: Fernanda y Luana se separaron de Nervosa y recientemente anunciaron una nueva banda: Crypta. ¿Podrías decirnos cómo comenzó la formación de este grupo?
Luana: Siempre quise volver a tocar Death Metal, podría ser un proyecto, hobbie o cualquier cosa, y Fernanda lo sabía, así que decidimos comenzar un proyecto paralelo para superar nuestros límites, probar algunas cosas nuevas y así. Necesitábamos una guitarrista para que se uniera a nosotros, y pensamos de inmediato en Sonia Anubis, siempre la admiramos y, para nuestra suerte, estaba muy emocionada de unirse a nosotros en este proyecto. Todo comenzó el año pasado, pero estábamos tomando a Crypta como un proyecto paralelo y yendo muy lento, pero después de dejar Nervosa, lo tomamos como nuestra banda principal y comenzamos a buscar otra guitarrista. Tainá vino a preguntarnos si necesitábamos otra guitarrista justo cuando buscábamos a algunas chicas, así que la revisamos y ella se unió a la banda este año.
LMA: ¿Hubo alguna razón especial para nombrar a esta banda como Crypta?
Luana: Sí, buscamos un nombre durante meses y no nos gustaba ninguno, cuando a dos de nosotras nos gustaba cierto nombre, a la otra no le gustó en absoluto, fue difícil. Un día, Fernanda y yo estábamos en un día libre en la República Checa y decidimos visitar algunas partes turísticas de Brno, así que visitamos el laberinto subterráneo, el osario y la cripta de los capuchinos, todo el mismo día. Cuando estábamos en el osario, mencioné que solo visitamos criptas y lugares que parecían criptas, y luego inmediatamente pensé en Crypta, como una versión portuguesa/española de la misma. A todos nos gustó mucho el nombre, y verificamos si ya había otras bandas que lo usaban, y las dos bandas que encontramos en Metallum ya no estaban activas desde hace mucho tiempo, y tampoco estaban registradas oficialmente en ningún lado, así que lo hicimos, obtuvimos todos los logotipos que más nos gustaron y le pedimos a Christophe Szpajdel que creara algo para nosotros.
LMA: ¿Por qué Crypta, en términos musicales, se aleja del thrash metal que Fernanda y Luana habían desarrollado originalmente con Nervosa?
Luana: No tendría sentido tocar en otra banda de Thrash Metal en ese momento, ya que ya estábamos tocando Thrash Metal como carrera. Queríamos hacer algo que fuera diferente para nosotros en ese momento, y que pudiéramos superar nuestros límites e intentar cosas nuevas. Todo comenzó como un proyecto paralelo para experimentar cosas nuevas como músicos.
LMA: Sabemos que la banda está trabajando en su álbum de debut, ¿podrías contarnos un poco al respecto?
Luana: Hemos estado trabajando mucho más este año, la cuarentena nos dio tiempo para trabajar en las cosas correctamente, y ahora, Crypta es nuestra banda principal, por lo que podemos hacerlo. Estamos muy contentas con los resultados que obtuvimos hasta ahora, pero no diré en detalle como puede sonar, porque no quiero que las personas tengan altas expectativas, prefiero no decir nada en este momento y dejar que la gente haga sus opiniones al respecto más adelante. Todo lo que puedo decir es que será honesto, vamos a lanzar algo por lo que todos estamos entusiasmados, por lo que tendrá un poco de cada una de nosotras, de todas las influencias que tenemos como músicos.
LMA: ¿Cuáles son las influencias musicales de Crypta que se toman en el proceso de composición en su álbum debut?
Luana: Creo que nuestras principales influencias provienen del Death Metal de Florida y el Death Metal sueco, por lo que trataremos de mezclarlo un poco y ver que pasa. Todos sabemos que no queremos que sea algo demasiado técnico, simplemente Death Metal. No queremos sonar como algo nuevo, eso no se ha hecho ya, ni tratar de impresionar a nadie, sólo queremos tocar nuestro metal como nos gusta y esperamos que a la gente también le guste.
LMA: La nueva alineación de Crypta, continúa manteniendo el poder femenino y se ha convertido en una banda multi-internacional al incluir a Sonia Anubis y Tainá Bergamaschi. ¿Podrías contarnos sobre Tainá y su experiencia dentro de la escena musical?
Luana: Tainá tocó en muchas bandas y proyectos, pero el principal es una banda brasileña llamada Hagbard, tocan folk metal y tienen su propia base de fanáticos en #Brasil, es una banda realmente buena. Ella todavía no estaba de gira, pero cuando comencé a tocar con Nervosa yo tenía aún menos experiencia tocando en vivo, así que todo estará bien. Ella quiere trabajar profesionalmente como guitarrista, y eso es todo lo que necesita para hacerlo. Ella ya es una gran guitarrista. Hoy en día podemos escribir canciones a través de Internet y reunirnos para ensayar más tarde, por lo que esto también es algo fácil de resolver.
LMA: ¿Cuál consideras que es el desafío que enfrenta Crypta en esta nueva etapa?
Luana: Al menos para mí en este momento, el desafío es hacer que la gente entienda que Crypta es algo completamente nuevo, y que no se puede comparar con nuestras bandas anteriores. Es una banda diferente, con nuevos objetivos y nuevas formas de sonar, no se supone que sea una copia de nuestros trabajos anteriores, esto ni siquiera tendría sentido, porque si quisiéramos sonar como lo hicimos antes, no podríamos comenzar algo nuevo. La música no es una competencia, donde se compara quién es el mejor músico y cuál es la mejor banda. La música es arte, y el arte es una forma de expresar los sentimientos humanos. No se trata de ser rápido, técnico, sonar impresionante o hacer algo que nunca se había hecho antes, se trata de ser fiel a lo que te gusta y expresar tu sentimiento o pensamiento artístico. Al igual que no podemos comparar los sentimientos humanos, no comparamos las bandas y su música.
LMA. ¿Quieres decirles algunas palabras a tus fans de todo el mundo?
Luana: Sólo quiero decir gracias por todo el apoyo que hemos estado recibiendo, obtuvimos una respuesta realmente rápida y grande de la gente, y esto es más que una locura para nosotras, no esperábamos todo esto. Gracias por tomarse su tiempo para escuchar lo que hacemos, por tomarse su tiempo para leer mi entrevista y apoyar nuestro trabajo. INTERVIEW WITH LUANA DAMETTO (CRYPTA)
Crypta is the band that emerged after Fernanda Lira and Luana Dametto left brazilian Thrash Metal band Nervosa and it’s completely away from the musical style that catapulted them to fame in recent years betting on Death Metal. This band ended up settling for Sonia Anubis (ex-Burning Witches and Cobra Spell) and Tainá Bergamaschi (ex-Hagbard) going from an alternate project to be a full-time band.
La Magia Absalón had the opportunity to talk with her drummer Luana Dametto about the band, their debut album that are in the process of composition and the challenges that come for this Brazilian / Dutch quartet in the future.
LMA: Fernanda and Luana have separated from Nervosa and recently announced a new band: Crypta. Could you tell us how the formation of this group started?
Luana: I always wanted to play Death Metal again, it could be a project, hobbie or anything really, and Fernanda knew about this, so we decided to start a side project to push our limits, try some new things and so on. We needed a guitarist to join us, and we immediately thought of Sonia Anubis, we always admired her, and for our luck, she was very excited to join us on this project. This all started last year, but we were taking Crypta as a side project and going really slow, but after we quit Nervosa, we took it as our main band and started to search for another guitarist. Tainá came asking us if we needed another guitarist right when we were looking for some girls, so we checked her out and she got in the band this year.
LMA: Was there any special reason to name this band as Crypta?
Luana: There is, we searched for a name for months and never really liked any, when two of us liked certain name, the other one wouldn’t like it at all, it was hard. One day me and Fernanda were in a day off in Czech Republic and decided to visit some touristic parts of Brno, so we visited the underground labyrinth, the ossuary and the Capuching Crypt, all in the same day. When we were at the ossuary, I mentioned that we just visited crypts and places that looked like crypts, and then immediately thought of Crypta, like a portuguese/spanish version of it. We all liked the name a lot, and checked to see if there was any other bands using it already, and the two bands we found on Metallum were not active anymore since a long ago, and were also not officially registered anywhere, so we did it, got all the logos that we liked the most together and asked Christophe Szpajdel to create something for us.
LMA: Why does Crypta in musical terms move away from the thrash metal that Fernanda and Luana had originally developed with Nervosa?
Luana: It wouldn’t make sense to play in another Thrash Metal band at the time, seeing that we were already playing Thrash Metal as a career. We wanted to do something that was different for us at the time, and that we could push our limits and try new things. It all started as a side project to experience new things as musicians.
LMA: We know that the band is working on their debut album, could you tell us a bit about it?
Luana: We have been working on it much more this year, the quarantine gave us time to work on things properly, and also, now Crypta is our main band, so we can do this. We’re very happy about the results that we got so far, but I won’t tell in details how it might sound like, cause I don’t want people to have high expectations, I rather not say anything right now and let people make their own opinions about it later on. All I can say is that it will be honest, we’re gonna release something that we’re all excited about, so it will have a bit of each of us in it, of all the influences that we have as musicians.
LMA: What are the musical influences of Crypta that are taken up in the process of composing this debut album?
Luana: I guess our main influences comes from the Death Metal from Florida, and Swedish Death Metal, so we’re gonna try to mix it up a bit and see what happens. We all know that we don’t want it to be anything too technical, just straight forward Death Metal. We don’t wanna sound like anything new, that wasn’t been done already, or try to impress anyone, we just wanna play our metal the way we like it and hope that people will like it too.
LMA: Crypta's new line-up, while continuing to hold feminine power, has become a multi-international band by including Sonia Anubis and Tainá Bergamaschi. Could you tell us about Taniá and her experience within the music scene?
Luana: Tainá played in many bands and projects, but the main one is a brazilian band called Hagbard, they play folk metal and have their own fan base in Brazil, it’s a really good band. She didn’t tour yet, but when I started to play with Nervosa I had even less experience playing live, so everything is gonna be fine. She wants to work professionally as a guitarist, and this is all she needs to do it. She is already a great guitarist. Now days we can write songs through internet and meet to rehearse later, so this is also something easy to solve.
LMA: What do you consider to be the challenge
that Crypta faces in this new stage?
Luana: At least for me right now, the challenge is to make people understand that Crypta is a whole new thing, and it can’t be compared to our previous bands. It’s a different band, with new goals and new ways of sounding, it’s not supposed to be a copy of our previous works, this wouldn’t even make sense, because if we wanted to sound like we did before, we wouldn’t have started something new. Music is not a competition, where you compare who is he best musician, and what’s the best band. Music is art, and art is a way to express human feelings. It’s not about being fast, technical, sounding impressive or doing something that was never done before, it’s about being true to what you like and expressing your feeling thought art. Just like we can’t compare human feelings, we don’t compare bands and their music.
LMA: Do you want to tell your fans around the world something?
Luana: I just wanna say thanks for all the support that we have been receiving, we got a really fast and big response from people, and this is more than crazy to us, we weren’t expecting all of this.
